Collaboration is in our DNA. Approaching our 20th year we continue to build on the foundations of our ethos, uniting with creators in their own spheres to craft products that reflect our passions for architecture, design and art. This season the Pioneer comes to life with a unique graphic from architect turned tattoo artist Okan Uckun and the Clout is the canvas for world renowned Vancouver srtists and sculptor Martha Sturdy. Discover them here.
New York based Turkish tattoo artist Okan Uckun started out as an architect, only turning to tattooing to help cover the costs of expensive university materials. His work is incredibly distinct; a style he defines as 'conceptual mathematics' where mathematics meets aesthetics. "I like designing complicated things[...]created in a totally minimalist structure." His work is the embodiment of our aesthetic, subtle, monochromatic, combining bold geometric shapes with naturalistic subjects making this seasons Pioneer one of the most natural collaborations we have ever commissioned.
Shop BoardMartha Sturdy is a Vancouver based artist known for her work exploring contemporary interest in pure environments by implying natural scale and economy to replicate the spatial experience of the untouched outdoors. Her work re-evaluates the oldest subject in art - landscape, specifically natures ability to lure emotion and arts attempt to witness it. We were drawn to her works in resin, specifically the series "Mount Currie", named after the peak that dominates the skyline above her farm in the Pemberton valley. The depth and texture of the resin forms a unique graphic that is a fitting homage to the simple and majestic beauty of our mountain home.
Shop BoardBrent Comber's furniture workshop is at the base of Mount Seymour where he can be found crafting large pieces of timber into incredible objects. World renowned, Brent was awarded Best Furniture at the 2017 International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York. To capture his incredible work, the Scorched Shattered wood was photographed and visually interpreted through layers of screen printing to create not only an aesthetic but also a tactile feel.
